1964 Monaco Grand Prix – Dan Gurney Leads John Surtees at Station Hairpin – Limited Edition Fine Art Print by Laurence Hawthorne
A beautifully detailed artwork by Laurence Hawthorne capturing a memorable moment from the 1964 Monaco Grand Prix, as Dan Gurney leads John Surtees through Monaco's famous Station Hairpin during one of the most dramatic Formula One seasons of the 1960s.
The 1964 Monaco Grand Prix formed the opening European round of a fiercely contested World Championship that would ultimately be decided at the final race of the season. Held on the narrow streets of Monte Carlo, the race brought together many of the era's greatest drivers, including Graham Hill, Jim Clark, John Surtees, Jack Brabham, Dan Gurney, and Bruce McLaren. Monaco's tight confines and unforgiving barriers demanded absolute precision, rewarding courage and concentration as much as outright speed.
Dan Gurney's Brabham-Climax and John Surtees' Ferrari represented two of the leading contenders in a season that would become one of Formula One's most celebrated championship battles. Surtees would go on to make history later that year by becoming the only person ever to win World Championships on both two wheels and four, securing the Formula One title after already having conquered motorcycle racing.
Set against the glamorous backdrop of Monte Carlo's harbour-side streets, this artwork captures the atmosphere of a golden era when Grand Prix racing combined extraordinary driver skill, charismatic machinery, and some of the world's most iconic circuits.
Produced as a strictly limited edition of just 50 copies worldwide, each print is individually signed and editioned by Laurence Hawthorne.
