In 1968, Ferruccio Lamborghini commissioned a special Aquarama, hull number 278, to be equipped with two 4.0-litre Lamborghini V12 engines taken from his very first production car, the Lamborghini 350 GT. This one-off vessel combined the world’s most celebrated luxury wooden motorboat with the sophisticated quad-cam V12 that established Lamborghini as a serious high-performance manufacturer. No other Aquarama was ever built with Lamborghini power, making hull 278 one of the rarest and most significant Rivas in existence.

The 350 GT engine, originally designed by Giotto Bizzarrini and refined by Lamborghini for road use, featured aluminium construction, twin overhead camshafts per bank, and a level of engineering sophistication that was exceptional for the period. Installed in the Aquarama, the pair of V12s delivered not only impressive performance but also a unique mechanical character unlike any other Riva.

This artwork focuses on the intricate engineering of the Lamborghini V12 itself, capturing the beautifully cast cam covers, triple carburettor arrangement, ignition system, polished pipework, and finely engineered ancillary components that make this engine one of the most visually striking powerplants of the 1960s.
